Only because Mary Poppins was released during the beginning of America’s second wave of feminism was its `sister suffragettes’ number engaging during that film.

Yet the 1964 snippet of British suffrage tactics completely and convieniently overlooked their radical strategies in favor of bouncy and pert cheerleading which could otherwise found at a high school game. While acknowledging the need for women’s rights, that same film also presented the women as pampered housewives who were really too busy for their families.

Thank goodness this HBO movie is considerable more realistic about the American-British radical suffrage struggle.

Alice Paul (Hillary Swank) and company may be conventionally glowing, but they are also not terrorized to display how openly ticked off they are about being held to laws they cannot assist build.

Much to the chagrin of the older `respectable’ American suffragists (who want to wait for men to give them the vote), the British experience encourages request for burly sociopolitical equality. When they are jailed for their convictions, the women refuse to eat. By our current expectations, the prison response (shown in graphic detail) is especially brutal.

For all of their progressive politics, Paul and company downplay accelerate ironically in a time when such justice is most needed. Paul personally welcomes back of Delta Sigma Theta and other African American organizations, but worries their public presence will either undo or prevent the vital southern assist principal to winning suffrage. It is not easy to admit that our movement has an unpleasant past, but it is critical to ensuring a socially honest future for all members. This conciousness is a marked improvement from days when even feminists themselves assumed their experiences applied for all women and speed was a separate yell.

Another plus, this same movie recognizes men have always supported the suffrage movement not because they wanted a partner, already had one, or were lobbied until they had no other public choice—but out of similar social justice misfortune.

Again, earlier suffrage depictions (as with the larger feminist movement) erroneously claimed that the movement was all women. This more fair historical relate may convince male viewers they have a similar obligation to work for the continuation of unique women’s equality. Other men will ask their motives and some women will ask their sincerity. But equality is really everybody’s fight.

Attending a college, which was founded by many suffragists, the emphasis on women college graduates (then a statistical minority) was especially sobering. Despite our novel knowledge of women’s studies and gender theory, I don’t judge my generation (including myself) appreciates how fortunate we are when we would have been jeered at in earlier generations for receiving a college degree. After seeing this movie, I walked across my have campus trying to imagine some of the local townspeople (opposed to the view of women receiving a college education in their town) threatening us on a approach constant basis.

Precisely because Paul’s Equal Rights Amendment was not ratified by the required states by the 1982 deadline, the film ends on a unfortunate label. Paul’s work remains half-finished and we have proper obligation to ensure the ERA becomes section of the constitution.

Encouraging viewers to complete the revolution, the movie turns armchair loungers into activists.

As a vast fan of historical films, I always earn nervous before seeing a movie whose subject is one that I am passionate about. Therefore I was quite stupefied about this movie.

Turns out, it was the best pull off of all suffrace films. Touching and legal, with the upright amount of heart, humour, and intelligence, this movie made for an delicious and educating experience. It reminded me why I am gratified to be a woman.

Thanks to the original master, the detail is considerable greater on this DVD than previous releases. You’re able to witness microscopic, comely, details in the backgrounds that you simply could not do out on the Ultimate Edition. That coupled with the adjusted color (supervised and common by Lightstorm) and other improvements over previous releases; makes this the best looking Terminator 2 on DVD.

The harsh difference found on the previous DVD is lowered to a noteworthy more natural level, which gives the overall narrate a more film-like appearance. Even better, the excessive edge enhancement is impartial about completely gone. If those were the only improvements, it’d be enough to recommend the disc over the passe transfer, but they aren’t.

2000’s Ultimate Edition featured a very beneficial 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer that only had a couple minor problems. Most distracting was an excessive amount of edge enhancement, more grain than was normal for a Spruce 35 movie, and incompatibility that was fair a bit hot.

For this modern Coarse Edition, THX retransferred using the highest technology possible factual now. They created a fresh electronic film master of the movie at the attractive resolution of 1920×1080 24 FPS. Basically, this unique master would allow them to obtain unique transfers of T2 for HDTV, and digital theatrical showings. This DVD is created from that radiant master, and is easily the best Terminator 2 has ever looked on the DVD format.

10 out of 10. Purchase THIS DVD!

This “Low DVD” edition of “Terminator 2″ was already released a few years ago so if you already enjoy it, skip this re-release. However, this DVD is a shimmering example of delivering what DVD (and Blu-Ray for that matter) should. There are tremendous “making of” extras, an interactive “pop-up” feature, a unbelievable James Cameron commentary and other extras that originate this a can’t miss acquire.

The “Low DVD” edition of “Terminator 2″ adds a number of scenes to the theatrical version that positive up some of the questions I had. For example, in the scene where the T-1000 has Sarah call for John in the steel mill. I always wondered why it didn’t fair destroy Sarah and imitate her order and appearance. As it turns out, this occurs after the T-1000 has been frozen, shattered and reformed. Several moments in between these events reveals that the liquid terminator is malfunctioning which could interpret why it needed Sarah to call out to John. It isn’t unprejudiced a case of being stupefied to slay off main characters after all.

“T2″ is another James Cameron classic and if you haven’t seen it you’re missing out on a ample film. And you should gaze it on this “Uncouth DVD” edition.

-All bonus features from the first 5 season DVDs (Unconfirmed)

-Pilot Episode “Wait On Wanted” in regular and 7 Seas Edition

-Documentary “SquareRoots” in new, uncut widescreen format

-Animation Art Galleries

-Music Videos

-More to arrive!

It is unknown the area about the features labeled “unconfirmed”, and what the disc break-up is going to be. My guess is if it includes intention more bonus features than listed, then it would be discs 1-10 are the episodes (half a season per disc) and 11-14 are bonus discs, but only time will mumble.

There will be a setup menu on each disc with audio and visual options, and presumably captions, and the packaging will be a 3D-lenticular slipcase housed in plexiglass. It sounds like a deal to me, and I’ll be picking this up despite the fact I already fill seasons 1-5 on DVD.

We occupy all of the recent seasons (1-5) currently offered of SpongeBob SquarePants. We like them but they acquire up a lot of plot and we constantly have the discs rotating throughout our house. We definitely will withhold the originals but this site is objective a shrimp wider than the box of the 1st season station. Now when our son asks for a distinct episode (which he does often) we can actually get it!

I fair unpacked this item so I am not clear if discs 1-13 occupy bonus features (other than commentaries) . There are no extras listed and I haven’t found any other extras on the discs with episodes. Also, the menus aren’t bewitching as elaborately as the originals. I engage the new menus on the previous separate season releases; they are enthralling (lively pictures) as opposed to one static record and it is easier to engage the specific explain that you want on the older version menus. Although, the fresh menus seem to load more rapidly.

* I added some screenshots of the menu to the “customer images” share of this item’s listing.

Disc 14 contains the following special features:

- Square Roots: The Anecdote of SpongeBob SquarePants

- “Assist Wanted”: The Seven Seas Edition

- Life Lessons from Bikini Bottom

- Kick-Wham-Pow-Bob Music Video

My bottom line opinion: If you are a tremendous fan, bag the new situation AND this state — now at amazon.com for $65. If you don’t care about the spot or note and want impartial one status - secure the originals. If you have kids and a budget or you like to objective “play all” of the episodes - I would recommend this one because it takes up so tiny place and the brand is really respectable accurate now - a lot cheaper than if you bought all of the seasons separately.

Hats off to Ted Turner’s crew and their partners at Warner Home Video for a simply blooming DVD presentation of THE HARVEY GIRLS. The film looks sumptuous. A thrilling example of Technicolor at its most shapely. Although THE HARVEY GIRLS is a thoroughly enjoyable entertainment, there isn’t noteworthy substance to the station. It seems to hardly matter, as the film’s major virtues are its immense find by Johnny Mercer and Harry Warren, gracious performances from a enormous cast, and of course, the peerless Judy Garland.

If anyone else had played the lead in this relate, it would have been long forgotten. This is Judy’s point to, all the contrivance, and everything about it is designed to note off her mammoth talents.

She is at the top of her compose here…looking glorious, singing gorgeously, dancing with aplomb, and handling both dramatic and comedic scenes better than anyone else could ever dream to. The biggest highlight of the film is the tremendous eight-minute production number ON THE ATCHISON, TOPEKA, AND THE SANTA FE which ended up winning a Best Song Oscar. This sequence alone is worth the imprint of the DVD, and the Warner Home Video people give us an extra bonus by presenting the number separately in Moral STEREO! Fabulous!

The supplementary materials are sizable and beautifully assembled. The commentary by recently-deceased director George Sidney was fortunately captured for this release, and his thoughts and reminiscences are appealing and charming. There were four musical numbers intended for this represent which were carve before release. MARCH OF THE DOAGIES and its reprise and MY INTUITION are the three that were filmed, and they are included on this DVD, looking like they were filmed yesterday (actually they glance TOO righteous to have been filmed in this day and age) . The one unused song that was recorded but not filmed called HAYRIDE is among the more than 20 pre-recording sessions included on the DVD’s “Convey Song Vow”. A curious opportunity to be display on the Metro recording stages as they laid down these historic tracks. You can hear the starts and stops, the banter and laughter…It’s almost like being there. The disc also includes a trailer.

Hats off to Warner and Turner for a resplendent job well done, a Substantial improvement from the once-impressive laserdisc release, which is now unwatchable in comparison to this DVD. Add to this the VERY reasonable sign of this movie, and it can’t be beat. Now the immense question: “When will Warner give us MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, EASTER PARADE and the rest of the golden Garland catalog? ” Let’s hope it’s soon. If this DVD is any indication of what those will be like, we are in for a treat.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Harvey Girls! Click Here

One of the most lavish of 40s MGM musicals, THE HARVEY GIRLS really shows off Judy Garland’s distinguished comedy skills, which she rarely got worthy of a chance to work with, and also shows her off at her absolute most unearthly beauty. She’s terrific here, and she gets a huge haunting opening solo from the caboose of a affirm and a sizable entrance into town with the illustrious “On the Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe,” one of the most excitingly staged numbers the Arthur Freed unit ever did (which is saying something) . The rest of the film isn’t up to Garland’s level or the level of those two songs, although the hokey plot–about how the correct and starched Harvey Girls bring such an splendid wholesomeness to the Wild West that all the temptations of sin wilt before them–demonstrates lovely powerful the MGM right ethos of the time. One added plus: a very young Angela Lansbury, as Garland’s rival for John Hodiak (ugh), looking lovely in multicolored lace teddies and oversized portray hats.

The worldwide success of Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins” has prompted Warner Bros. to finally release Tim Burton’s 1989 “Batman” with an extra disc of special features…and this is an event worth cheering about!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Batman! Click Here

A groundbreaking cinematic achievement (and one of the most expensive films ever produced, to that time), “Batman” was a stout gamble, and the memoir slow the ten-year struggle to bring it to the shroud is spellbinding! It is a legend of visionaries, beginning with Michael Uslan, a young student/Batman fan, who not only convinced his university to include comics in their curriculum, but, fired up by Richard Donner’s “Superman”, knew a Batman film could be honest as noteworthy, and took the opinion, with Batman creator Bob Kane’s blessing, to Hollywood; of Peter Gruber and Jon Peters, who listened to Uslan, after every studio had passed on it, saw the potential, and decided to gamble; of Sam Hamm, who had a “Batman” script in his head, praying to collect the chance to write it; and, most importantly, of Tim Burton, whose dim, quirky sensibilities made him THE director to film it, despite only two feature films to his credit.

This much tale, with archival footage and fresh interviews, is the highlight of disc two, but there is powerful, powerful more! Did you know that Robin was scripted to effect an appearance in the first film? That Sean Young, not Kim Basinger, had been cast as Vicki Vale? That the Batmobile, designed by Oscar-winner Anton Furst, could actually do 95 mph (and that Tim Burton drove it, once? ) That the room where disfigured Jack Nicholson received his unsuccessful plastic surgery was actually a studio prop room? Each chapter is a revelation!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Batman! Click Here

Not that there aren’t a few disappointments in the presentation; there is no chapter with deleted scenes (although a few moments are shown that never made it into the finished film…a exiguous girl, seeing Batman, asks, in all seriousness, “Is it Halloween? “, which causes him to conclude, and grin) ; the ‘History’ of Batman, despite a wealth of photos and clips from the comics, serials, and graphic novels, does not offer a single visual from the campy 60s TV series (whether this was a refusal by 20th Century Fox, who produced the series, to permit their exercise, or an attempt to distance the movie from the “ZAP! BAM! POW!” silliness is not explained) . Also, the brief appearance of conceal sage Jack Palance, as ‘Boss Grissom’, is largely ignored, other than in Tim Burton’s audio commentary, which is surprising. Mild, many of the cast fragment their memories (Billy Dee Williams collected expresses disappointment that he didn’t collect to play ‘Two-Face’; Robert Wuhl, regret that after they rewrote his death scene to allow his character to survive, he never appeared in another film in the franchise) .

I guess what I’m saying, is…chuck your ragged copy of “Batman”, and replace it with THIS one!

You’ll be contented you did!

This film proved to the world that droll book films could be powerful more than action-packed carnage festivals. This film (and the first sequel “Batman Returns”) have so considerable more to it than that. “Batman” is a piquant and very racy exploration of the psyche; it peers into the souls of not only the Sunless Knight, but also those of the people whose lives he changes with his presence. The film is brilliantly acted by its perfectly-chosen cast, which includes Jack Nicholson (the Joker), Michael Keaton (the Batman), Kim Basinger (Vicki Vale), Micheal Gough (Alfred Pennyworth), and Robert Wuhl (Alexander Knox) . Tim Burton makes perfect spend of his amazing directorial talents, Anton Furst designs a gothic, ravishing Gotham City, and Danny Elfman’s classic musical accumulate further abet manufacture this a new, thought-provoking, and very considerable new classic, a masterpiece of film noir and tall opera. “Batman Returns shares these extraordinary qualities, but, sadly, Joel Schumacher’s “Batman Forever” and “Batman and Robin” lose all of that depth and meaning, and become shrimp more than standard mindless action. But, we’ll always have Burton’s unlit vision of a afraid and brooding Batman.

Look, if you’re looking for a film that’ll proceed mountains, forget it. You cannot capture There Was a Hooked Man seriously. That said, if you’re looking for a fun film, with a screenplay that departs honest enough from the standard conventions of the Western genre to be provocative, then check this out. Contemplate meatloaf and crinkle fries as opposed to steak and taters. The storyline is imaginative, the central characters are likeable albeit, mostly irredeemable, and the dialogue is amusing…even the awkward and slightly poor tedious sixties baroque pop find somehow works, even though you might cringe the first time you hear it initiate the film. There is enough entertainment value here to merit a DVD release. Win it easy…don’t be a snob…you’ll have fun with it if you allow yourself.

When I sat down to contemplate this movie, I expected to gaze a movie distinguished in the tradition of, say, The Wild Bunch or The Searchers. You know, tough guys on horses being tough. What I ended up watching was a western-comedy that I honestly saw as the grandfather of Blazing Saddles. Honestly, to me, this movie is that comic. Douglas, Fonda, Burgess Meredith, and the always awesome Warren Oates all give performances top-notch of all the praise you can give them. Prison movie? It objective happens to be space there, and serves as the backdrop for the hilarious posturing going on between Douglas and Fonda. Upright from the originate, you’ll be zigzag.

Although it lacks the scope of THE SEVEN SAMURAI, THRONE OF BLOOD, and other more widely known films by the well-known Akira Kurosawa, the 1961 YOJIMBO (also known as BODYGUARD) is one of the most valuable films of the second half of the 20th Century–and a film that was deeply influenced by American film. Even so, YOJIMBO stands on its beget merits: it’s a sparkling allotment of cinema that will fascinate even those who normally turn up their noses at “movies with subtitles.”

In theory, the film is based on the 1929 Dashiell Hammett current RED HARVEST–but transports the basic yarn to a period in Japan when the Samurai class has fallen on hard times and must view employment as approved body guards. Sanjuro Kuwabatake (brilliantly played by Toshiro Mifune, who appeared in several Kurosawa films) is such a one, a scruffy looking and aging warrior who finds himself caught between warring factions of a Japanese village and responds by playing the two against each other.

One of the film’s greatest assets is its visual style. Kurosawa is very clearly influenced by the ogle of the American western here, and most particularly so, in my view, by HIGH NOON. Consequently, YOJIMBO leaps the cultural divide with great ease–but Kurosawa uses the images of empty streets and the lone warrior to considerably different finish, presenting him as a hazardous figure who emerges from the dust and the wind to rip wide his foes. But the film does not rely on visual style alone: there is plenty of hard substance here, too. The location is tightly hurt, action-intensive, and laced with a dry and very gloomy humor, and the cast is superlative throughout.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Yojimbo! Click Here

As it borrowed from the American movie western, so did it influence American film in return, most obviously in the manufacture of the current Clint Eastwood “spaghetti westerns” of the 1970s–where it was essentially remade as A FIST Corpulent OF DOLLARS. But frankly Clint Eastwood never had it so good: with Kurosawa at the helm and Mifune as the lead, Eastwood’s “lone stranger” feels noteworthy tame in comparison.

The Criterion DVD offers the film in current widescreen and in the best possible condition short of a burly digital restoration. As distinguished elsewhere, there are occasional blips and lines–but honestly the film is so driving that you will barely observe them. The subtitles also seem to be a better translation than I’ve seen in any other version. YOJIMBO was my introduction to Japanese cinema. I hurry you to let it be yours as well.

GFT, Amazon reviewer

Being one of Kurosawa’s best known works, Yojimbo is indeed a classic and a radiant watch in film craftsmanship. The visual compositions, performances, and fight sequences that Kurosawa delivers here are, as usual, bright (and highly influential) . It must be said, however, that the film’s residence is fair confusing at times, especially in the second half with all the various characters and dim intrigues that enter the mix. I personally have some pains keeping track of which characters are aligned with which of the two warring factions, and that becomes doubly difficult when the rival groups launch exchanging prisoners and whatnot. Of course it doesn’t really matter in terms of the film’s tone and meaning (the two groups are equally nasty and equally deserving of what Sanjuro does to them), but I tranquil like to be able to retract what’s going on when I peep a samurai-western-action movie like this. Nevertheless, it is a fine film and certainly primary viewing for any fan of Kurosawa or samurai films. Criterion’s DVD edition, though, leaves a bit more to be desired. The only extra is the film’s trailer, which is in widescreen but is strangely and inexplicably shifted towards the bottom of the screen; and those of you with qualified home theater systems will examine a lot of pixellization and other problems in the visual presentation of the film itself. But worst of all is the determined fact that section of the image is missing at the left and fair edges of the screen– anybody watching the opening credits sequence can clearly gawk that the words are spilling out of the recount (causing the credits to read “Starrin Toshiro Mifun” with the last letters of words missing) . Criterion should have done something about this, especially with a film like this one where you know Kurosawa struggled to earn every aspect of visual detail honest accurate. Collected, the film makes up for these problems, and since this is the only American DVD of this movie, we don’t have too many alternatives…

If I had known that, I wouldn’t have purchased it. It’s ample have Waterworld on Bluray, it looks astounding,

but I would have rather waited for the extended version that I’m clear will reach out eventually. The movie companies always have to pick up a contrivance to produce an extra buck at our expense by making us by the same movie twice.

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), feeble Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me weep.

I belief it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a frightened young boy star-struck by a notorious explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become rapidly friends, and declare to one day fade to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they bewitch their dream home and fix it up, hoping to have it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through obsolete age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a joyful marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s injure when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.

When developers cessation in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and disappear to Paradise Falls. A aged balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of lustrous balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a paunchy, audacious kid trying to pick up a scouting badge.

After landing in Paradise Falls, the feeble man and the petite boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a grand rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of terminate calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.

In the process, Carl learns to let go of his sunless mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by pretty hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole modern world.

Up is a deeply emotional film, corpulent of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Fetch another triumph for Pixar.

Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to do an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster spellbinding movie. But in the meantime, they’re tranquil putting out exquisite captivating movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety old-fashioned man. It’s a charming, fun diminutive adventure narrative with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet exiguous memoir about loss and savor.

As a child, the panicked Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared worship of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, recede into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.

Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a actual estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an fervent, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the budge. Abominable kid was impartial trying to bag an “assisting the elderly” badge.

And the jungle whisk to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a gigantic emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious feeble man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the dilapidated guy is very familiar to Carl — and to steal Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as approved as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty old-fashioned coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can savor Carl’s worship for his lost wife, and his insensible realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they reveal all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing veteran together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy approach to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of substantial dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Examine Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Cold! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an weak airship.

Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and clear to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is positive to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special glimpse. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I worship you”) and act the scheme dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to catch shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of curious stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable captivating shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to instruct potentially unpleasant baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.

“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously intriguing, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can like. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

Star Hurry is one of the biggest franchises ever. I first came across it with The Next Generation series. So, when the blu ray of the fresh came out, I jumped on it. The blu ray presentation–in terms of quality of image and sound–is unparalleled for any series of its time. I was blown away that a series this outmoded could ogle and sound this worthy. Now the accurate material was a dinky more uneven than I expected. Some of it is vivid (Menagerie, Balance of Anxiety, Court Martial), some of its satisfactory, but there is some that is awful, really dreadful (The Man Trap, Miri, Shore Leave) . I watched in sigh disbelief as Sulu pranced around in one episode swinging a sword! Yes, there are number of these faulty moments. Of course, there are moments of brilliance and episodes where you peer the future potential of the series. Menagerie Parts 1 & 2 is one of those. Jeffrey Hunter is sparkling and the epic is one of the best of all Star Scramble. BTW, Kirk and Spock are really, really respectable episode after episode. There are a number of honorable guest performances and even some surprising ones (like Joan Collins) . Overall, it’s ok, but not the best.
